### FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ###

January 5, 2023

Georgetown, South Carolina- On Saturday, January 21st, Jared’s Heart of Success will be co-hosting a Mental Health Awareness workshop for youth and adults. We seek to create “SPACES TO DISCUSS MENTAL WELLNESS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.” The event will also be hosted by Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and Woke Worship Center.
Jared’s Heart of Success is a nonprofit organization focused on youth empowerment, mental wellness, and gun violence prevention. The organization was founded by Sharmaine Brown after her son Jared was killed by a stray bullet in 2015. Sharmaine has become a leading national advocate for gun violence prevention through her work with Jared’s Heart of Success and as a member of the Everytown Survivor Network.

The workshop aims to address mental health issues and silence the stigma. The event is open to all individuals, youth, and adults who may have experienced trauma from family and/or generational history, the legal system, gun violence, physical violence, and more. The workshop, entitled: “It’s Okay to Ask for Help,” will be held at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (7275 Browns Ferry Rd, Georgetown, SC 29440) at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21st. Attendance is free but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided.
